Fred Wagenaar was born in Ontario, Canada, to Dutch immigrants who came to seek the better opportunities available in North America. He became the buyer at an international firm, buying steel from overseas countries such as Germany and Japan. At age 50, he decided on a new direction, and went to university in Iowa, earning his B.A. and teaching degree (with emphasis on Special Education and Reading), while coaching the women’s soccer team there. Coach Wagenaar has coached soccer for four decades, from U-5 to U-19 competitive, including 17 years as a women’s college soccer coach. He loves to teach the hard work, skill, and sacrifice that is required to become an excellent athlete and great citizen.
